PRESS STATEMENT 21/13
16th May 2013
The new Pacific Plan Desk Officer has had a
busy start in his post in the Federated States of Micronesia.
Mr McEnroe Ardos was appointed to the Desk Officer position on
May 1st under a joint agreement between the Pacific Islands Forum
Secretariat and the Government of the Federated States of Micronesia.
In his first few weeks on the job, Mr Ardos has been assisting
in the organisation of consultations for the Pacific Plan Review team – including meetings with representatives
of the national and state governments, regional organisations, and
non-governmental groups.
“The Pacific Plan Review meetings have been an excellent
learning experience for me”, he said. “It is good to understand what the
Pacific Plan means for different stakeholders”.
Mr Ardos is officially employed under a contract with the
Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, but is placed in the Federated States of
Micronesia’s Department of Foreign Affairs, and logistically supported
in-country by the Government.
Secretary of Foreign Affairs, the Honourable Lorin S. Robert,
has applauded the appointment of the Desk Officer. “This position will help
strengthen links to the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat and the broader
region’s work under the Pacific Plan”, he said.
“We are looking forward to working with Mr Ardos over the course
of his contract”, responded Forum Secretariat Deputy Secretary General Feleti
Teo.
“We welcome his placement within the Federated States of
Micronesia Government, which will further strengthen our relationship with, and
delivery of assistance to, their country”.
