Prime Minister Abe of Japan expresses appreciation for supporting Japan’s 2020 Olympic bid



FSMIS (October 14, 2013): The Office of the Prime Minister of Japan sent a September 10 message to the Federated States of Micronesia President Manny Mori, expressing appreciation for the FSM’s support of Japan’s bid to host the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

“I would like to express my sincere appreciation for the support that your country has given to Japan”, the Prime Minister said in his written communication.

“We are now committed to providing an environment in which the superb athletes from your country and around the world can fully realize their potential and achieve their best performance with the highest level of sportsmanship on the world stage of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Japanese government will make all-out effort so that people around the world recognize that Tokyo was the right choice as the host city.”

Tokyo was selected on September 7th at the 125th Session of the International Olympic Committee held in Buenos Aires, Argentine Republic.

The 2020 Tokyo Olympics will follow 2016 edition of the Olympic Games that will be hosted in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The FSM first attended the Olympic Games in 2000 when the Games were held in Sydney, Australia.
