New
York – The number of countries with which the Federated States of Micronesia
(FSM) has established diplomatic relations increased by one today with the
addition of Montenegro through the signing of a Joint Communique between the two countries’
Permanent Missions to the United Nations
in New York. Montenegro became the sixty-ninth country that has established
diplomatic relations with the FSM.
Her
Excellency Jane J. Chigiyal, the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the
Federated States of Micronesia to the United Nations signed the Communique with
her counterpart from Montenegro, His Excellency
Mr. Milorad Scepanovic, who signed on behalf of his Government.
Upon
signing the Communique, the two Ambassadors highlighted their interest to
pursue issues of mutual interest including sustainable development and climate
change.
The
Joint Communique expressed the two countries’ desirous interest to establish
diplomatic relations at the Ambassadorial level, and to be guided by the
principles and purposes of the Charter of the United Nations, as well as the
Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 18 April 1961.
