FSMIS (February 6,
2014): The State
Governments, departments and office of the National Government and various NGO
partners have been informed of the upcoming Environment Conference to be held
in the State of Kosrae.
The conference will enable participants to work on the
coordination of National and State environment and resource management activities
and provide the opportunity to view updates on recent developments in specific
jurisdictions. The conference will also address the prioritization of the
"areas of intervention", looking at the types of specific management
activities that should be targeted to maximize environmental benefits.
The FSM-wide four-day meeting will bring together State and
National environment and resource managers, planners and NGO partners to ensure
a broad network in coordinating and prioritizing activities related to the Environment
Sector under the Compact of Free Association with the United States. These
stakeholders will also consider anticipated funding source under the Global
Environment Facility (GEF) Sixth Replenishment and other financing mechanisms.
The provisional agenda indicates a number of important
discussion areas, including the Pacific Adaptation to Climate Change; the GEF
Star Program with the United Nation Development Program; and a number of presentations
to be conducted by the College of Micronesia-FSM, the Secretariat of the
Pacific Community, the Japan International Cooperation Agency, the
International Office of Migration, the Micronesian Conservation Trust, the
Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Program, and other State and
National Government entities.
The conference is made possible with significant assistance
from the Micronesian Conservation Trust, the Global Environmental Facility and
the United Nation Environment Program along with the FSM National Government.
