FSM President and Congress consult in a closed-door informal meeting

FSMIS (January 21, 2014): In keeping with his persistent call for Congress to exercise better control in allocation and use of much needed revenue, on January 20, Federated States of Micronesia President Manny Mori invited the FSM Congress to meet with him and discuss Public Projects.
"It is my sincere hope that we can engage in a comprehensive discussion on Public Projects, inclusive of project concept development, public hearings, committee reporting, and the responsibilities and process of the Executive Branch, primarily regarding PCD (Project Control Document) processing, monitoring, and auditing functions. Additionally, I would like to address fiscal and personnel accountability, and our cooperative efforts to track the progress of our much needed public projects."
Congress responded to the invitation, which resulted in an exclusive meeting that involved only the Members of Congress and the President at around 10:00 a.m. today at the temporary Congress chamber at the Central Facility in Palikir.
On numerous occasions, the President has sought for Congress' willingness to discuss "sensitive issues" through a consultative process in less formal fashion to allow for frank and genuine exchange amongst themselves before committing to rigid processes.
