Micronesian Artist featured at Exhibition at UN Headquarters

New York – The work of hundreds of artist from around the world was put on display at the United Nations Headquarters in New York during an unveiling ceremony on September 9, 2013. The Exhibition “Nations – Water – Cultures” features the work of 320 artists from 110 countries. The exhibit also included the work of Micronesia’s own local artist, Ms. Yvonne Neth of Pohnpei.

Ms. Neth’s artistic submission to the Exhibition features a human face half immersed in water, using the universal theme of this year’s exhibition – Water, the symbol of life on Earth.

During the opening ceremony, which was held in the presence of the UN Under-Secretary-General for Communications and Public Information; the Head of the Romanian Cultural Institute in New York; UN diplomats and a group of artists from Inter-Art Foundation from Aiud, Romania, the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Romania to the United Nations commented that “the exhibit of Inter-Art is a standing proof that multiculturalism is one of the most valuable treasures of humanity”.

Ms. Neth is the only artist from the Pacific Small Island Developing States (PSIDS) whose art work was featured at the Exhibition.

The Exhibition “Nations – Water – Cultures” is organized by Inter-Art Foundation from Aiud, Romania, in partnership with the Permanent Mission of Romania to the UN, the Romanian Cultural Institute in New York, United Nations Staff Recreation Council, Latin Workshop Society, Portuguese Language Society din New York şi Centrul Cultural „Liviu Rebreanu” din Aiud, Romania.

The 2013Mail Art exhibition at the UN is the outcome of an initiative launched by Inter-Art in the framework of the International Year of Water Cooperation. More than 320 works of art have been put on display featuring particularities of different cultures and nations linked by a universal connector: WATER, symbol of life on Earth.

This year’s exhibit of Inter-Art is a special one, as it marks the 20^th anniversary of Mail Art phenomenon. It is for the second time the Inter-Art Foundation exhibits at the UN Headquarters, the former exhibition dating back from 2009.
